Before You Apply 1. Review the Frequently Asked Questions for information on common issues raised by researchers or the REB during the review process. 2. Review Example Applications and previous applications recommended by your Research Team or Supervisor for examples of your chosen methodologies, methods, populations, or issues related to your proposed research. Be advised these are updated frequently. 3. Attend a REB Information Session after you have discussed the project with your supervisor. The info session is held early each semester. REMINDERS: 1. Use the Informed Consent Form Template for your consent form (REB FORMS). 2. If you are doing an online survey, use the Guidelines for Submitting Online Survey to REB document (REB FORMS). 3. If you are doing secondary analysis, use the Secondary Analysis Application (REB FORMS). 4. Keep in mind it takes approximately 6-8 weeks to complete the review process after submission of your Application Package. 5. Length of the process often depends on how fast the applicant can address potential provisos. Keep in mind, you can not recruit participants from Adler University-Chicago without approval from the Adler University-Chicago IRB. Complete the TCPS2 Tutorial at http://www.pre.ethics.gc.ca/eng/education/tutorial-didacticiel/ 3. Download and complete the REB Application Form, which can be found on the REB FORMS page. When you have completed the Application, delete the italicized directions in each box to save space. 4. Use the Informed Consent Template, which can be found on the REB FORMS page, to complete your Informed Consent Form. 5. Also, make sure your Recruitment documents and Informed Consent form are at a grade 8 reading level. If appropriate, download and complete the REB Deception Form, which can be found on the REB FORMS page. 7. If appropriate, download and complete the Research Team Confidentiality Agreement, which can be found on the REB FORMS page. 8. Download and complete the Submission Form, which can be found on the REB FORMS page. If you are a student, please allow time for your supervisor to review your application and suggest revisions before signing this form. Submitting Your Application PackageApplication Packages are due by 5pm on the 1st of the month (see above deadlines). You may submit your application early. All email communication with the REB must always be CC’d to your supervisor (if you are a student). Make the subject of your email: [year and month you submitted your application] [last name][first initial] REB Application Package (eg. 2016_02 Smith J REB Application Package) The Application Package includes 3 attachments: 1. The completed Application form is attached as a Word document (pdfs will not be accepted) 2. The REB Submission Form Signed by the Researcher and Supervisor (if you are a student). 3. A pdf of the TCPS2 Tutorial Certificate. The date of your training must be after January 1, 2015. All attachments must be labeled as follows: [Year and Month you submitted your application][Your Last Name][Your First Initial][name of contents]. (eg. 2016_02 Smith J REB Application; 2016_02 Smith J REB Submission Form; 2016_02 Smith J TCPS2) After You Submit your Application Package After you submit your Application Package, enter the REB Application Screening Process. It will then enter the REB Application Process. The REB Application Screening Process 1. During the Screening Process, the application is screened for CLARITY, CONSISTENCY, COMPLETENESS, and READING LEVEL. 2. You may be contacted with a request for revisions to address the above. Almost all applications undergo at least one, usually two, screening revisions. 3. If more than three revision requests are required, the researcher will be asked to submit again the following month. 4. Applications must pass screening by 5pm on the 10th of the month to be considered by the REB at the next REB meeting. The REB Application Review Process 1. Minimal risk research with non-vulnerable populations is most often reviewed by a two-member panel (delegated review) of the REB and presented at the REB meeting. 2. Moderate or high-risk research and/or research with vulnerable populations are most often reviewed by all members of the REB (full board review), and discussed at the REB meeting. 3. One REB member will contact you (usually after the REB meeting) and work with you to complete the REB approval process. Your advisor should be cc’d on all communications. |
